Here are some basic tips and resources for working with wikispaces (please add more!)

Editing Navigation:

  • To add a home page for your school to the navigation menu, create a new page with the title you would like. Save the page.
  • Click on "edit navigation" underneath the navigation menu.
  • The navigation menu is really a text page, so simply type in the name of the page you wish to add.
  • Highlight this text and use the hyperlink icon to create a link.
  • You will have a menu choice to link the text to an existing page. Select your home page and click "OK"
  • You will have to format the text so it matches the rest of the navigation menu.
  • Click "save"

Adding sub-pages to your home page:

  • If you want to add and link pages to your home page, create a new page with the name of your sub-topic.
  • Save the new page.
  • Go back to your home page and type in the name of the page you wish to link to. Highlight this text and use the hyperlink icon to create a link.
  • You will have a menu choice to link the text to an existing page. Select the page you want and click "OK"
  • Your text should now link to the new sub-topic page. Click "save."

Resources:

  • Getting Tricky With Wikis - a good resource for adding some pizazz to your pages! (Just remember that the more widgets and plugins you have, the slower pages will load on older, slower computers - like those in some media labs.)
  • Wikispaces Blog - From wikispaces. A great resource for tips, tricks, and troubleshooting.
  • Wikispaces Forum - A discussion board for troubleshooting.
